The Twins, also known as the Crossing, is the seat of House Frey located in the Northern Riverlands. It is a heavily fortified crossing of the Green Fork of the Trident, consisting of two identical castles and a tower in the middle of the bridge. It is known as one of the most formidable strongholds in the entirety of the Seven Kingdoms.

The Twins consist of two identical castles built of stone, each on one side of the Green Fork of the trident and connected by a stone bridge. They have high curtain walls, deep moats and a barbican and portcullis in each. The stone bridge is large enough for two wagons to ride abreast, and in the middle of the bridge lies the Water Tower. It is the only crossing over the Green Fork for hundreds of miles either direction.
History[]
The Freys are a relatively young house, only holding the Crossing for six hundred years when the first Freys built a rickety wooden bridge over the most narrow part of the Green Fork.
It took the family another three generations to change the bridge from wooden to stone, after which they built wooden keeps on each side of the river. After that, they became absurdly wealthy, overcharging for passage over the river, a fact that upsets many older and more powerful houses, along with the fact that the Freys disrupt or burn any other bridges that are built across the Green Fork, or at least are rumored to.
The wooden keeps have since been replaced with identical ones of stone, giving the location its name. Given the strategic location of the Twins, the strong castle, wealth, and numerous levies, the Freys are arguably the most powerful vassal sworn to the Tully's, able to raise near four thousand men.
