House Tarly of Horn Hill is a noble house of the Reach, one of the strongest sworn to House Tyrell. Horn Hill is located in the foothills of the Red Mountains. Their sigil is the striding huntsman on green, and their words are "First in Battle".
Marcher lords of the Dornish Marches, the Tarlys are a family old in honor with rich lands and a strong keep. They are also the keepers of a Valyrian greatsword called Heartsbane.
War of the Five Kings
During the War of the Five Kings, Lord Randyll Tarly marched with Mace Tyrell and Renly Baratheon. When word arrived of Tywin Lannister's position outside Harrenhal, Lord Tarly, along with King Renly and several other important lords, marched out to meet him with an army of fifty thousand men. King Renly underestimated his foe, and sent Lord Randyll Tarly after what he thought was Lord Tywin's fleeing host, but was infact a clever ploy.
Tywin Lannister descended upon the unwary army of Renly Baratheon, while Randyll Tarly spent days searching for him west of Harrenhal. By the time he heard the news and swung around again, the Lannisters and the Baratheons were both on their way to King's Landing. Lord Randyll marched his men in swift pursuit, but did not arrive in time for the battle. Instead, many of the fleeing Westermen ran into his forces, and were either captured or slain.
